December 3rd Lighting of Breckenridge
Delight in the holiday sprit with the lighting of Breckenridge. This old-fashioned celebration will fill your heart as locals and visitors gather together to celebrate the incredible winter wonderland of Breckenridge and embark on a magical holiday season.
December 4-11th Hartford Disabled Sports Ski Spectacular
In its 23rd year, the Hartford returns to Breckenridge as the nation’s largest winter sports festival for people with physical disabilities. The weeklong event includes learn-to-ski and race programs, youth development camps and corporate race. The event is conducted by Disabled Sports USA (DS/USA) a provider of sports rehabilitation programs to anyone with permanent disabilities since 1967. December 15-18th Dew Tour
In its fourth year of showcasing the world’s top freeski and snowboard athletes competing in slopestyle and superpipe events, the Winter Dew Tour kicks off its nationwide tour once again at Breckenridge Ski Resort from December 15-18, 2011.
The Winter Dew Tour consists of three major, multi-sport events spanning across the country, with a cumulative points system and a $1.5 million competitive purse. Each event features snowboard and freeskiing competitors in slopestyle and superpipe events. At season’s end, the overall point’s leaders are crowned champions and awarded the prestigious Dew Cup.
Public events complement the competitions, including the Festival Village, specialty competitions, and live music and parties in town. Boasting the largest media platform in all of winter action sports, The Winter Dew Tour will be televised live on NBC, with additional domestic and international programming reaching more than 200 million households worldwide.
December 16th Breckenridge Birthday Bash
Breck’s actual 50th birthday will fall on Friday, Dec. 16, 2011. All day long, we'll be commemorating the grand opening of the resort, which first opened to the public on Dec. 16, 1961.
This date will also fall in the midst of one of the resort’s signature annual events, the Winter Dew Tour, which is set to take place that same weekend with competitions on the mountain and celebrations throughout town. The Town of Breckenridge is throwing the resort a monster birthday bash from the Riverwalk Center to the Breckenridge Theater with free beer for pass holders until it's gone. Los Lobos is playing a concert in honor of the half-a-century tenure of the resort.
January 08th-January 14th Ullr Fest
This annual week-long celebration of Ullr (pronounced Ooh-ler), the mythical Norse god of snow, brings to Breckenridge a legendary Main Street parade along with live entertainment, the Ullr Dating Game, a Nordic party, Ullympics and a family ice skating party. It’s a week long zany celebration for the whole family unlike any other festival anywhere on Earth!
January 24th – February 05th International Snow Sculpture Championship
2012 will be the 22nd year of International Snow Sculpture Championships. The Sculptures "live" in the area around the Riverwalk Center grounds at 150 West Adams Avenue, Breckenridge, CO 80424. We welcome visitors from beginning to the end of this free event (January 24 - February 4, 2012). Artists sculpt from Tuesday, January 24 at 11:00 a.m. until Saturday, January 28 at 10:00 a.m., judging is at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, the awards ceremony is at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, January 29 and sculptures will remain standing weather permitting until the night of Sunday, February 4, 2012 (until approx. 11:00 p.m.). Giving snowmen self-esteem issues for 22 years.
February 18th – February 21st Mardi Gras
Each year, New Orleans visitors and Mardi Gras lovers take over Breckenridge with masks, boas, beads, music and revelry to commemorate the carnival season. Breckenridge Mardi Gras will kick off in style from on Friday, February 18, with it's annual Bacchus Ball at Beaver Run Resort.
March 17th – April 05th Spring Fever Festival
Spring Fever will once again grip Breckenridge as the town and ski resort welcome visitors to one of the best times of the year for skiing and riding. Spring Fever is a celebration of great spring snow, sunny bluebird days, special events, and great deals throughout town for guests. Signature Spring Fever events include the Bud Light Concert Series on a specially constructed stage at the base of Peak 8, The Breck Ascent Series, the “5 Peaks” Mountaineering Race, $18.59 dining specials, a Spring Beer Festival, Easter kids festivities, the Imperial Challenge, and more.
April 14th Imperial Challenge
This year marks the 16th annual Imperial Challenge! This warms up with a 6.2 mile mountain bike ride from the Town of Breckenridge across Peak 7 to Peak 8, followed by a 2,500 foot, wind testing ascent of Peak 8 to the top of the Imperial Bowl on the equipment of your choice. As your quadriceps quiver from oxygen deprivation and lactic acid build up, begin your descent to the base of Peak 8 on skis or a snowboard.
